What is Unix Timestamp Converter?

A Unix timestamp is the number of seconds elapsed since 1970-01-01 00:00:00 UTC (the "epoch"). It is how computers store points in time, but it is unreadable for humans.

This tool converts timestamps to local time, UTC and ISO 8601 strings, and converts dates back to both second and millisecond timestamps. Seconds vs milliseconds is detected automatically, and the current timestamp updates live.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have seconds or milliseconds?

Current timestamps have 10 digits in seconds and 13 in milliseconds (JavaScript uses milliseconds). The tool detects this automatically by magnitude.

Why does the same timestamp show different times?

A timestamp is an absolute moment; the displayed clock time depends on your device timezone. UTC is the timezone-independent reference.
